About Us
Our History

Take Two Theatre broke ground in October of 1984. It was the dream of 6 individuals:
- Gerard Arsenault
- Hedy Baker-Graf
- Marjory Bryce
- Linda Jenkin
- Scott Reid
- Vic Voyer
These pioneers were joined by 10 others and presented the first play, “Plaza Suite”, at the William Dawson Memorial Auditorium (Timmins High and Vocational School) in May of 1985. The production was well received by the Timmins audience and thus, the company of Take Two Theatre was born. From there, Take Two Theatre continued to offer more live theatre.
The seasons keep rolling by with more comedy, farce, and dinner theatre. The costumes, sets, and props have become more elaborate. Over the seasons Take Two Theatre has had great support from the Timmins community and surrounding area, QUONTA, and Theatre Ontario. It has been privileged to receive Theatre Ontario grants for training members and much education and growth has occurred. The professional workshop leaders have been a wonderful asset to the group.
Take Two Theatre has made substantial donations to the Ontario Diabetes Association, Heart & Stroke, Timmins Firefighters, Porcupine Dante Club, Santa Claus Fund, and the Timmins Symphony.
Take Two Theatre has also given back to the community by offering a yearly scholarship to each of the Timmins area high schools for anyone going into a college or university program of the arts. Many members have contributed to the community by offering their expertise to different organizations and groups. (e.g., face painting at the mall for Halloween, make-up for school productions, skits for service clubs, skits presented at the Golden Manor, and much more).
Besides all of this, the members of Take Two Theatre also have time for more zany fun stuff! Hollywood has their “Academy Awards”, and Take Two Theatre has the “Corey Awards.” An entertaining evening is set aside to honour actors, directors, producers, etc.
We have now settled into our new Home at the “Station” which is located on Pine St. North behind the CTV (old CFCL) station. We are able to hold meetings, build sets, and also rehearse there. It is a great new home for Take Two Theatre.
Each year, Take Two Theatre realizes a growth in membership. It is comforting to know that the love for theatre is alive and well in Timmins!
